Three young Ipswich artists win Constable 250 art competition

Posted on October 30, 2026 by Press Team

Three young Ipswich artists have had their work picked as the winners of the Constable 250 children’s art competition. Their pictures are now on show at Harvest Moon Cafe in St Peters Street, so you can see them over a coffee.

The competition was part of the Constable 250 celebrations run by Ipswich Central. It launched in August. Children from the local community were invited to take inspiration from the world of John Constable and create their own landscape artwork.

Meet the winners

Entries were judged by a vote among representatives of All About Ipswich, Ipswich Museums and Harvest Moon. The three winners are:

  • Florence, aged 5, for her entry The Magical Forest
  • Amber, aged 7, for her drawing A Small Piece of Treat Easter Land
  • Isla, aged six and a half, for her entry The Secret Garden

Florence and Amber both took home a whole host of Constable 250 goodies. The winners have now collected their prizes.

A fitting tribute to a famous Ipswich name

John Constable is one of the town’s most famous faces. It is good to see young people picking up their pencils and crayons in response to his landscapes. A young artist can look at the countryside in a new way, and a competition like this gives them a reason to try.

A spokesperson for Ipswich Central said they were amazed by the creativity on show, and thanked everyone who entered. They also said the three winners should feel extremely proud to have their work on display.

“We hope that one day these budding artists can create a legacy as long lasting as John Constable.”

Ipswich Central also thanked Flynn Squirell from Harvest Moon and the team at Ipswich Museums. It praised them for putting on a yearlong celebration of Constable, which saw the Hay Wain come to Ipswich for the first time.

See the artwork for yourself

The winning pictures are on display at Harvest Moon in St Peters Street. It is worth a look if you are in town, and a nice thing to share with your own budding artists. Seeing their work on a café wall may encourage other children to have a go next time.

Harvest Moon’s opening hours are:

  • Monday: 08:00 to 16:00
  • Tuesday: closed
  • Wednesday to Friday: 08:00 to 16:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 to 16:00
  • Sunday: 10:00 to 16:00

To see Florence, Amber and Isla’s artwork, head to Harvest Moon Cafe on St Peters Street during those hours. To find out more about Constable 250 and other events in the town, keep an eye on Ipswich Central’s website and on ipswich.love.
