Information - Bell Ringing at Ipswich Minster
Welcome to the Society of Change Ringers – We are the resident ringers at the Ipswich Minster in central Ipswich.
There has been a ringing tradition here for over 300 years and certainly from 1896-1939 the St. Mary-le-Tower society was one of the leading twelve-bell Companies in the land. Over 700 peals have been rung here, many of them for notable occasions.
Visiting ringers are encouraged and are always welcome. We usually ring on Sunday mornings for Choral Matins, between 8.45am and 9.30am (during August we ring for the Eucharist 9.45am to 10.30am as there is no Choral Matins).
Always check with us before travelling – We welcome visitors to our service ringing and practices, and will do our best to ensure that you will be able to participate in something suiting your ability. It’s always best to contact us in advance just to check that we do not have anything special occurring which might alter our normal ringing.
The bells are available for visiting bands – for general ringing, quarter peals and peals. However, we are a tower in the centre of a busy town, with many businesses and restaurants. We do therefore have to be very mindful of this and the amount of ringing that takes place is carefully controlled. Please contact us in the first instance.
