Takeover Brings a Celebration of Culture, Creativity and Connection to Ipswich

Posted on October 15, 2026 by Samantha Sherman

Looking for something inspiring, family-friendly and completely free to do this autumn?

DanceEast is opening its doors for ArtsFeast: Community Takeover, a vibrant afternoon celebrating the cultures, creativity and community spirit that make Ipswich such a special place to call home. Taking place on Saturday 28 November from 12pm to 4pm, the event promises a packed programme of dance, art, music, food and hands-on activities for all ages.

Bringing together local artists, community groups and organisations from across the town, ArtsFeast is all about discovering something new, meeting new people and celebrating the many cultures that help shape today’s Ipswich.

Visitors will have the chance to explore artwork, photography, textiles and creative displays while meeting the talented local makers and organisations behind them. There will also be opportunities to get involved, with arts, crafts and interactive activities designed to encourage creativity and connection.

One of the highlights of the afternoon will be a series of dance taster sessions inspired by cultures from around the world. Whether you’re curious about South Asian dance, Traditional Haitian Folk Dance, or African and Caribbean music and movement, everyone is encouraged to join in regardless of age or experience.

Food and conversation also play a big part in the event. Guests can sample food from a variety of cultures while enjoying music, poetry and spoken word performances. There will even be opportunities to get involved with community media projects and share your own thoughts and experiences.

A range of well-known local organisations will be taking part, including The Hive, Future Female Society, Ipswich Community Media, Ipswich Romanian Community, Ipswich Windrush Society, BME Suffolk and others, showcasing the breadth of talent and community activity taking place across the town.

Best of all, the event is completely free, with no booking required.

At a time when bringing people together feels more important than ever, ArtsFeast offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what unites us, discover new cultures and make new connections right here in the heart of Ipswich.
