A climate exhibition designed to inspire hope rather than despair is coming to Ipswich this autumn, bringing together young people, artists, educators and community groups to explore practical responses to some of the biggest environmental challenges of our time.
Seeds of Hope & Action will be on display at DanceEast from 22 September to 4 October 2026, inviting visitors to discover how individual actions, community initiatives and youth-led innovation can help create a more sustainable future.
Created by Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and Earth Charter International, the exhibition features 25 thought-provoking panels exploring climate change, biodiversity loss and the connections between people, communities and the natural world. Rather than focusing solely on the challenges we face, the exhibition aims to encourage positive action and demonstrate how change often begins with ordinary people taking small but meaningful steps.
As climate conversations increasingly dominate headlines, organisers hope the exhibition will provide a welcoming space for reflection, discussion and inspiration.
Young People at the Heart of the Conversation
A key feature of the Ipswich programme is a Young People’s Climate Hackathon, taking place at DanceEast on 29 September.
Organised in partnership with the #iWill Movement, the event will bring together students from schools across the region to develop creative ideas for addressing climate and biodiversity challenges.
What makes the event particularly distinctive is that it will be entirely youth-led. Students will work collaboratively to generate solutions and present their ideas directly to a panel of local leaders and changemakers, without adult coaching or direction.
The hackathon reflects one of the exhibition’s central themes: that young people are not simply inheriting environmental challenges, but are already contributing ideas and leadership.
Inspiring Creativity and Community Action
Alongside the exhibition itself, a series of free public events will encourage learning, creativity and dialogue.
On 27 September, artist Emma from Elkie Wild Art will lead a creative workshop exploring the ancient geometric pattern known as the Seed of Life. Participants will create their own artwork while reflecting on hopes for the environment and the future.
A discussion evening titled The Oneness of Life and Our Environment will take place on 2 October at the Ipswich Umbrella, exploring environmental questions through the lens of Nichiren Buddhism and humanity’s relationship with nature.

The following evening, on 3 October, the People’s Emergency Briefing film will be screened in partnership with the Unitarian Meeting House Ipswich. Featuring broadcaster and environmental campaigner Chris Packham, the film examines both the climate and nature crises while highlighting practical actions that individuals and communities can take.
Engaging Students Across Suffolk
The exhibition’s impact will extend beyond DanceEast through collaborations with local colleges.
Students from the West Suffolk College Art and Design Department will respond creatively to themes from the exhibition, while Suffolk One Sixth Form College students will engage with the content as part of their induction programme.
Exhibition panels will also be displayed at both colleges, giving hundreds of young people the opportunity to explore ideas around sustainability, environmental responsibility and positive social change.
A Focus on Hope
While discussions around climate change can often feel overwhelming, the message at the heart of Seeds of Hope & Action is a simple one: every person has the potential to make a difference.
By combining education, creativity, dialogue and youth leadership, the exhibition aims to leave visitors feeling informed, inspired and empowered to take action in their own communities.
