Chairperson of the Royal Bengal Sports Club and Association, Ruman Muhith talked to us about the Club and said:
“When Royal Bengal Sports Club and Association began, it did not start with a grand plan or a finished blueprint. In mid 2023, a group of friends who played amateur cricket under the name Mighty Storm approached me for advice on how to set up a club. I was reluctant at first, because setting up a club properly takes time, commitment and responsibility. But after a lot of encouragement, I agreed to help. Rather than forming just a cricket club, we chose to establish a sports club and association, one that could grow, include other sports, and serve the wider community. We rebranded, thought carefully about heritage and identity, and designed a structure that focused on good governance, sustainability and inclusivity for all ages, genders and abilities.

Throughout 2024, alongside a newly formed executive team, we laid the foundations of what is now Royal Bengal Sports Club and Association. We built the organisation, recruited volunteers and players, embedded ourselves in the local
community, and prepared the club not just to compete, but to last. Competitive sport followed in 2025, but the real work started long before that.
“Our vision has always been bigger than results, but the impact on the pitch has been impossible to ignore. In our first competitive cricket season in 2025, the club won both the AJ Sports Sunday League Division 1 and the Inter Firm Tuesday League. Two league titles in a debut season is rare at grassroots level and speaks volumes about the culture, leadership and commitment behind the scenes. Alongside that, our football team entered Division 3 of the Ipswich Sunday Football League for the 2025 to 2026 season and currently sits second with nine matches remaining. Across the league, people are asking who the Royal Bengals are, and what we stand for.
Beyond competition, our purpose is rooted in community impact. Based at Murrayside Community Centre in Priory Heath, an area with deep sporting heritage, we are committed to creating safe, welcoming opportunities for families and young people to engage in sport. Through support from Ipswich Borough Council’s Community Chest Grant, we are delivering community activities and mixed gender cricket and football tournaments during school holidays.
The Royal Bengal Sports Club and Association is about building something sustainable, inclusive and proud of its roots. We are connecting modern grassroots sport with community values and local heritage, and we are only just getting started.
We’d love to welcome more interest from anyone across Ipswich – just drop us a mail to info@royalbengals.co.uk or follow us on Instagram or Facebook
