Remembrance Events in Ipswich: Join the Community in Honouring Our Heroes

On Sunday 9 November 2025, Ipswich will come together to observe the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park. This important event is organised by the Royal British Legion in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council and provides a meaningful opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects to those who served in the armed forces and those affected by conflict.

The service begins at 10.50am, and attendees can expect to see veterans, civic leaders, armed forces members, cadets, and representatives of various local organisations participating. The event is not only a solemn reflection on sacrifice, but also a celebration of community spirit.

Military and Youth March Through Ipswich

Before the service, a military and youth organisations parade will march through the town centre starting from Elm Street at approximately 10.15am. The parade route includes Elm Street, Museum Street, Westgate Street, Tavern Street, Northgate Street, crossing A1156 Crown Street into Soane Street, heading towards Christchurch Park. Residents and visitors are warmly invited to watch the procession, but are kindly asked to keep ample space for the marchers and to heed instructions from police and security personnel.

Following the service, Councillor Stefan Long, Mayor of Ipswich, and Lady Clare Euston, Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, will take the salute at the March Past.

Armistice Day Remembrance Services

Continuing the remembrance commemorations, on Armistice Day, Tuesday 11 November, veterans alongside children from local schools will gather once again at the Fields of Honour in the Old Cemetery and at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park. The services start at 10.50am, with the traditional sounding of maroons marking the beginning and end of the two-minute silence at 11.00am, honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The Poppy Appeal: Supporting Our Armed Forces

The Ipswich Poppy Appeal was launched on Saturday 25 October by the Mayor outside Ipswich Town Hall. Residents can learn more and support this annual appeal by purchasing a poppy or donating online via the Royal British Legion’s website: www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal.

Councillor Stefan Long emphasises the importance of community participation:

“At this time of year, we pay our respects to all those who have served our country or have been affected by conflict. We hope Ipswich residents will join us by attending these Remembrance Day events, and observing the two-minute silence.”

“We come together to remember those who gave their lives to protect our democracy and freedoms. It is important that we as a community continue to reflect on these sacrifices by ordinary people, made on our behalf. It is also important that we thank those serving today, and offer our support to those members of the armed forces and veterans by buying a Poppy and supporting the Royal British Legion.”
