Ready to Vote?

Posted on April 3, 2026 by Sam Sherman

Check you’re ready to vote in the local elections on 7 May. You must be registered, and you may need to apply for a postal, proxy vote or free ID.

Changed address or moved home since you last registered? Check now and update your details online easily.

You need to show photo ID or a Voter Authority Certificate at polling stations

Did you know you can vote by post? It might be more convenient for you than voting at a polling station.

If you’re registered for a postal vote in England, remember that you need to re-apply every three years.

Last date for applications to vote by post in the 7 May local elections is Tuesday 21 April.

Remember that you need photo ID to vote at your local council elections on Thursday 7 May 2026.  Don’t have photo ID? Apply for free online or with a paper form by 28 April.
