Hospital Radio Ipswich may be the town’s longest running radio station, but its very own app is brand new! Patients, visitors, staff and the wider public can now listen in by using the app on smart phones and tablets, as well as on the more familiar hospital bedside units; the station’s website; and smart speaker.
The launch was formally announced on the ‘Sunday Breakfast’ show, by Radio 2’s Sally Boazman, aka ‘Sally Traffic’ who joined presenter Rick Double in the studio, along with well known local radio presenter and promoter of local music talent, Stephen ‘Foz’ Foster. Stephen began his broadcasting career in the summer of 1977 at Hospital Radio Ipswich, where he remains a presenter, as well as being Chairman of the charity.
He thanked both the team at Hospital Radio Ipswich and Radio Caroline presenter Pat Edison, who helped with the development of the app. “We’re here to entertain and inform and most especially, to keep patients company during their stay in hospital” said Stephen, “so we feel it’s really important to make listening to our 24/7 programmes as easy and convenient as possible. We know that patients carry on listening to us when they leave hospital and we hope that trend will only increase with our new app.”
Sally, who lives in Suffolk, said: “Congratulations on developing the app! It’s a brilliant way of bringing the programmes of this wonderful radio station to a wider audience, both in and out of hospital.”
The app ‘H R Ipswich’ is available for Apple and Android devices and can be downloaded here
