Mayor’s Civic Service to Take Place in Ipswich This October
The annual civic service for the Mayor of Ipswich will be held on Sunday 19 October 2025, bringing together community leaders and residents to celebrate the town and those who serve its civic life.
This year, Councillor Stefan Long, Mayor of Ipswich, will be joined by fellow Mayors from across Suffolk, along with Civic Leaders from Ipswich, for this important event. The day will feature a procession from the Town Hall to Ipswich Minster, beginning around 3:15pm, followed by the Civic Service itself at 3:30pm, led by Reverend Tom Mumford.

This year’s Civic Service holds special significance as it marks the 825th anniversary of Ipswich being granted its Town Charter. The service will reflect on centuries of history and the ongoing celebrations of this landmark anniversary.
Mayor Stefan Long said:
“The Civic Service gives us an opportunity to bring the community together in the heart of Ipswich and to recognise and give thanks to those who, collectively, make so many important contributions to the civic life of our town.
This year marks 825 years since Ipswich was granted its Town Charter and so the service will reflect upon those centuries of history and the Charter’s anniversary celebrations. The service is open to everyone and I hope that people from across Ipswich will join me for this occasion, the first Civic Service to be held at Ipswich Minster since its redesignation.”
Join the Community Celebration
The Civic Service is a public event and warmly welcomes residents from across Ipswich to attend. It’s a wonderful chance to come together, acknowledge the dedication of those involved in civic duties, and celebrate Ipswich’s rich heritage right in the heart of the town.
