Ipswich’s Unsung Heroes: Local Cleansing Team Named National Award Finalists

It takes a huge amount of behind-the-scenes effort to keep our town looking its best, which is why we are absolutely thrilled to share that the unsung heroes of our streets have been recognised on a national stage once again.

The dedicated Waste and Cleansing Team at Ipswich Borough Council has been officially shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious APSE Service Awards 2026. They are in the running for the Best Service Team of the Year: Streetscene award, marking an impressive fourth consecutive year that the team has reached the finals.

A Commitment to a Cleaner Community

The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Awards celebrate the very best in frontline local authority services across the UK. To be shortlisted four years in a row is no small feat—it highlights a continued, steadfast commitment to delivering high-quality environmental services for residents, businesses, and visitors across Ipswich.

So, what caught the judges’ eyes this year? The award submission showcased the innovative and sustainable solutions the team has introduced to support the town’s wider Corporate Strategy and Waste Plan. By working hand-in-hand with local residents, staff, and our wonderful community groups, the Cleansing Team is helping to drive positive environmental change right on our doorsteps.

A major focus has been placed on boosting local recycling behaviours and enhancing the everyday environment within Ipswich Central. This targeted project hasn’t just improved operational efficiency; it is actively contributing to cleaner streets and better environmental outcomes for us all.
