Have you Heard of Community Farming?

Posted on May 1, 2026 by Miranda Acres

Tucked away on the edge of Ipswich, The Oak Tree Community Farm is an oasis.

Person pulling a trolley laden with lots of vegetable boxesOperating as a ‘community supported agriculture’ scheme, the farm supplies fresh nutritious naturally grown fruit, veg and flowers to around 100 local households, all of whom are members actively involved in the project.

Every week throughout the year, members receive seasonal vegetable boxes brimming with ultra-fresh produce. No two boxes are ever the same, reflecting the natural rhythm of the seasons, and the diversity of crops that are grown without the use of artificial herbicides, pesticides, or fertilisers. An autumn or winter box might include potatoes, leeks, onions, kale, chard, cabbage, broccoli, and a variety of squashes, while spring and summer brings a colourful mix of fresh greens, radishes, carrots, tomatoes, aubergines and peppers.

An open, green field and blue skies with lots of people sitting out on chairs with tables .But besides the produce, what most members enjoy the most is being part of a pioneering community project using innovative but natural methods to grow nutritious food in truly healthy soil. With high biodiversity and no artificial chemicals, the farm is a beautiful and relaxing place to spend time working together, relaxing or socialising.

Members experience first-hand the seasonal cycle of the growing year, enjoying the range of food this brings as well as celebrating key turning points such as the solstices and the autumn harvest. There are a few different membership options with varying levels of commitment to help out at the farm.

If you’d like to find out more or are interested in joining the community, head over to www.the-oak-tree.co.uk or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

Or their open day is the third Sunday in May.
