October is Packed with Ways to Get Active in Ipswich

Looking for something active, affordable and fun this October? Whether you’re trying something new, keeping the kids entertained during half-term, or taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle, Ipswich Fit has a packed calendar of activities throughout the month. Run by Ipswich Borough Council, the programme is helping people across Ipswich get active, meet others and feel good.

Whether you’re looking for activities to keep the children entertained during the school holidays, hoping to improve your fitness, or ready to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle, October offers something for everyone.

Half-Term Fun for Families

The October half-term programme promises a week of “spooktastic” activities for young people and families between 26 and 30 October. From junior football and bouncy play sessions to family roller skating and more, there are plenty of opportunities to burn off some energy and have fun together.

For families looking to make the most of the programme, the Young Person iCard offers access to a wide range of activities throughout the week.

School holidays can be challenging to fill, but programmes like these help keep children active, social and engaged while giving parents plenty of affordable local options.

Make a Splash at Swim Camp

One of the highlights of the month is the return of Ipswich Fit’s popular Swim Camp. Taking place during half-term, the session includes kayaking, paddle boats and a range of fun water-based activities designed to build confidence and skills in the pool.

Perfect for confident young swimmers looking to try something different, the camp combines activity, learning and fun in a safe environment.

Supporting Suffolk Through Stoptober

October is also Stoptober, the national campaign encouraging smokers to quit for 28 days and take the first step towards becoming smoke-free for life. Ipswich Fit is helping to raise awareness of the support available through Feel Good Suffolk, a free healthy living service delivered in partnership with local authorities and health organisations across the county.

The service offers expert advice, one-to-one support, group sessions, apps, medication options and other resources to help people stop smoking successfully. Since launching, the programme has helped thousands of Suffolk residents quit smoking.

Try Yoga This October

If you’re looking for something a little calmer, Ipswich Fit’s yoga classes welcome everyone from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Sessions focus on gentle movement, breathing, flexibility and relaxation, helping participants improve both physical and mental wellbeing.

Classes take place at both Whitton Sports Centre and Gainsborough Sports Centre throughout the week, making it easy to find a session that fits around your schedule.

Inspired by Ipswich Half Marathon Heroes?

October is a great time to start thinking about your own fitness goals. Ipswich Fit has recently been celebrating members of council staff who took on the Ipswich Half Marathon after months of training and preparation. Their stories show that with determination, support and consistency, taking on a major challenge is achievable for ordinary people from all walks of life.

Whether your goal is a fun walk, a new fitness class, learning to swim or eventually tackling a race, now is the perfect time to get started.

Get Involved

One of the things we love about Ipswich Fit is its focus on making physical activity accessible to everyone. From children discovering new sports during half-term to adults improving their wellbeing through yoga or health support programmes, October’s activities are all about helping residents live healthier, happier lives.
