Information - Talk: Exploring the Archives of the Rope Family of Blaxhall and Leiston

Join Senior Archivist Bridget Hanley for a talk exploring the Rope family collections held at Suffolk Archives.

Gain insight into this remarkable family through their correspondence and other family papers. You will also be able to view and handle some of these original archives. George Rope, the patriarch of the family, lived from 1814 to 1912 and farmed in Blaxhall. He was interviewed by George Ewart Evans for his book “Ask the Fellows who Cut the Hay”. Several of his nine children were talented artists, and these artistic abilities were passed down to the next generation, including Margaret Rope and M.E. Aldrich Rope, who will be the focus of the afternoon talk
