If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about wildlife, spend more time outdoors, or simply enjoy a few hours connecting with nature alongside friendly local people, a new free course from ActivLives could be just the thing.
This October, ActivLives is inviting residents to take part in a four-week Wild About Nature course at The People’s Community Garden on the Maidenhall Allotments in Ipswich.
The course combines practical conservation activities with opportunities to improve wellbeing, learn new skills and discover more about the wildlife living on our doorstep.
Participants will explore subjects including species identification, habitat creation and environmental care, while taking part in hands-on activities designed to help people reconnect with nature. Taking place on Mondays from 10am to 12 noon, the sessions will be held at the community garden on Halifax Road, a flourishing green space where volunteers, gardeners and nature enthusiasts work together to create a haven for both people and wildlife.
As well as learning about local wildlife, participants will have the opportunity to help maintain and build habitats, develop practical environmental skills and experience the benefits of eco-therapy in a supportive group setting.
And for anyone keen to discover another side of life in the garden, each session is followed by an open beekeeping session from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Participants are welcome to bring a packed lunch and stay on.

The Wild About Nature course is part of a wider ActivLives project helping local people become actively involved in protecting and improving the environment.
Alongside regular volunteering sessions and community events, the project encourages people to make positive changes in their own gardens and neighbourhoods, creating more space for nature across Ipswich.
ActivLives hopes the project will help foster a greater appreciation of the natural world while giving people the confidence and knowledge to take action in their own communities.
The Wild About Nature course is free to attend and is open to adults aged 16 and over.
