DineMeet: Turning Strangers into Friends, One Dinner at a Time

Posted on November 12, 2025 by Miranda Acres

When Elene Marsden returned from Bangkok this summer, she brought back more than just memories – she brought a bold new idea to Ipswich. Inspired by the vibrant social dining scene overseas, Elene launched DineMeet, a simple yet powerful concept: bring strangers together over great food and let the magic of connection do the rest.

Now, just a few months later, DineMeet is already making waves across the town’s food and friendship scene.

“DineMeet is all about giving people a reason to get out, connect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of sharing a meal,” says Elene. “It’s not about dating – it’s about building friendships, community spirit, and sometimes even sparking new business ideas.”

And Ipswich has embraced it.

Three dinners in – each one hosted at a different local restaurant – and the buzz is growing. Last week, The Forge Kitchen played host to eight strangers around a shared table. The result? A night of fantastic food, real conversation, and the kind of connections that don’t end when the bill arrives. Some guests have already arranged to meet up again. That’s the magic of DineMeet.

A Guest’s Perspective

One recent diner, Melody Wood, captured the spirit of the evening perfectly:

“‘Come dine and meet’ is the kind of invitation I imagine great scriptwriters making films from. For me, this experience of meeting seven total strangers over dinner was a kaleidoscope of colour and stories, woven gently together into new human connections with the kind of real and beautiful people we rarely get the chance to go beyond just meeting. Thank you, Elene. It was all perfect.”

As 2026 approaches, Elene is dreaming bigger – more dinners, more venues, more people connecting over something as timeless as food and conversation.

So, whether you’re new in town, looking to expand your circle, or just fancy a meal with fascinating company — DineMeet could be the most refreshing thing you do this year.

Join the table. Make a new friend. Share a story.
Because in Ipswich… we dine to connect.
