Windrush Festival Returns to Ipswich this June

Posted on April 28, 2026 by Miranda Acres

Ipswich is set to come alive once again this summer as the Ipswich Windrush Society brings back its much-anticipated Heritage & Legacy Music Festival on Saturday 20 June 2026 at Landseer Park.

Now in its fourth year, the event marks 78 years since the arrival of the Windrush generation, honouring their lasting impact on British culture and community life.

Building on a Standout Year

Colours are Green, Red and yellow and feature a background of an exotic plant leaf and a palm treeAfter a hugely successful 2025 festival – which saw Landseer Park filled with music, food, stalls and a strong sense of togetherness – organisers are aiming even higher this year.

Founder Max Thomas reflected on the event’s growing significance:

“Last year really showed the strength of what this festival has become. For 2026, we’re building on that energy to create something even more meaningful – a celebration that brings people together while keeping the stories and legacy of the Windrush generation alive.”

A Day of Celebration, Culture and Community

The festival continues to shine a light on the heritage, resilience and contributions of the Windrush generation, combining celebration with reflection in a welcoming, inclusive space.

Visitors can expect:

  • Live music from artists across the UK
  • A wide range of authentic Caribbean food
  • Independent stalls and local makers
  • Family-friendly activities
  • Opportunities to hear directly from Windrush elders and guest speakers

These personal stories remain at the heart of the event, ensuring that history is shared across generations.

Parade Through the Community

The day begins at 11:00am with a lively parade setting off and returning to Landseer Park via Clapgate Lane. The route will take in Landseer Road, Rands Way, Queens Way and Nacton Road.

A vibrant steel band will lead the way, joined by performances from local group MRD Dance, bringing colour, rhythm and celebration to the streets.

Festival in the Park

From 12:00pm to 5:00pm, Landseer Park will host the main festival, offering a full afternoon of entertainment, food and community connection.

Co-founder Leah Tovell shared the vision behind the event:

“We’ve worked hard to create something that truly reflects our community – a space where people can come together, celebrate culture and honour the legacy of the Windrush generation. It’s about pride, connection and inclusivity.”

Evening Celebrations Continue

The day doesn’t end there. An official after-party will take place from 5:30pm at The Golden Hind, delivered in partnership with Reminisce, giving people the chance to keep the celebrations going into the evening.
