There is something magical happening in Ipswich this autumn.
As visitors flock into town for the Ipswich Book Festival, another celebration of imagination, creativity and independent culture will be unfolding just around the corner. On Sunday 4 October, The Walk’s popular Street Market returns with a brand new Fantasy & Gamers theme, transforming a section of the town centre into a vibrant showcase of local makers, artists, collectors and independent businesses.
Running from 10am until 4pm, the market will stretch along The Walk and into the Butter Market, bringing together more than 30 stalls packed with original artwork, retro gaming, alternative fashion, collectibles, curiosities, handcrafted gifts and much more.
The themed event reflects the growing appetite for creative and alternative experiences in Ipswich, while providing a platform for small local businesses to connect directly with new customers.
A Celebration of Independent Ipswich
One of the things that makes The Walk markets so popular is the mix of familiar faces and fresh discoveries.
Returning traders include creative favourites Artwork by Window In The Moon, Dilly Dally Doodles and Soft Kitten Creations, alongside fashion and accessories from Attic In The Moon, JL Retro and MSA Crochet Bags. Visitors can also browse unique gifts, lamps, trinkets and handcrafted items from Rewop, Bulldog Lamps and Fern Alter.
Joining the market for the first time are Blast From The Past, Mulligan Games and Funky Frog, adding even more variety to an already eclectic line-up.
Whether you’re hunting for the perfect gift, adding to a collection, discovering local artwork or simply supporting small businesses, the market promises plenty to explore.
Cosplay, Gaming and a Touch of Fantasy
The Fantasy & Gamers theme brings an extra layer of fun to the event, with cosplay characters expected to make appearances throughout the day alongside interactive activities for visitors.
From retro gaming nostalgia and vintage treasures to witchy wares, fantasy-inspired creations and alternative fashion, the market aims to celebrate the communities and hobbies that bring people together.
It is another example of how Ipswich’s independent traders continue to create unique experiences that cannot be found on the high street alone.
Follow the Trail and Win £100
A brand new feature debuting at October’s market is the Street Market Stamp Trail.
Visitors can pick up a trail map from selected stalls and participating shops before setting off around the market looking for matching pictures displayed at participating locations.
Each discovery earns a stamp, and once all ten have been collected, participants can enter a free prize draw for the chance to win £100.
Completed forms, including a name and contact number, should be handed in to Threads or The Military Unit before 2pm, with the winner being drawn at random at 3pm.
The trail has been designed to encourage visitors to explore every corner of the market while discovering the independent businesses that make The Walk such a distinctive part of Ipswich town centre.
A Weekend Full of Stories
The timing could not be better.
With the Ipswich Book Festival taking place across the same weekend, the town will be buzzing with readers, writers, families, artists and visitors. While the festival celebrates storytelling through books and ideas, The Walk Street Market offers a different kind of story: one told through art, creativity, craftsmanship and local enterprise.
Together, the events create a fantastic opportunity to spend a full day in Ipswich, discovering new authors, meeting independent traders, supporting local businesses and experiencing the creativity that continues to thrive across the town centre.
