Interested in writing children’s books? Join us for this free writing for children workshop with award-winning author Jane Elson! Suitable for adults.
This two-hour workshop, presented by award-winning author Jane Elson, will give you a great grounding in the basics of writing for children. The session will cover everything from choosing your readership and concept to developing plot and characterisation, with time for questions. Participants will also get the chance to join a writing group after the workshop, offering further support and an all-important writing community.
Booking is required. This event is free to attend but spaces are limited.
Workshop organiser All Stories offers free development opportunities to talented writers from underrepresented backgrounds. The 2024 programme includes writing workshops and writing groups. To register, you must be over 18, reside in the UK and from an underrepresented group. This is defined as those who identify as a person of colour, LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodiverse, working class or socio-economically disadvantaged.
Meet your workshop host: Jane Elson
Jane Elson is a multi-award-winning dyslexic author. She won Blue Peters Book of the Year two years running and was twice nominated for the Carnegie Medal and longlisted for the Branford Boase Award. Jane was honoured to be on the organisation Women Beyond the Box first UK’s Top 50 influential Neurodivergent women list 2019. She enjoys being a regular guest on BBC Radio London-Shay Kaur Grewal Show.
After performing as a comedy improviser Jane fell into writing stories and plays. Her play Leonardo Stole My Crayon about Young Offenders and dyslexia was the winner of the Kings Cross Award for New Writing.
Jane is proud to be a trustee for the charity Nacoa – the National Association for Children of Alcoholics and was asked to speak at the House of Commons as part of the Stafford Ward Memorial Lecture alongside MP’s Jonanthan Ashworth, Liam Byrne and Nacoa patron Calum Best to raise awareness. She is also an advocate for animal charity All Dogs Matter.
