Information - Trainspotting The Musical

Hey Ipswich! Get ready for something truly special. We are incredibly excited to announce that a massive world premiere is heading right here to our very own Regent Theatre. If you thought you knew the story of Renton, Sick Boy, and Begbie, think again.

Choose Life: Trainspotting The Musical is Coming to Ipswich

It has been thirty years since the film version of Trainspotting changed the cultural landscape forever. Now, the industrial, drug-crazed, working-class heroes we know so well are back in a brand-new musical format. Written by the legendary Irvine Welsh himself, alongside Stephen McGuinness, this isn’t just a trip down memory lane—it’s a fresh, powerful, and loud look at the world we live in today.

Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly are returning to the stage to show us that while the world has shifted since 1996, the hunger hasn’t. This production explores how addiction has evolved from the needle to the screen, and how the search for meaning in a modern world is as restless as ever.

A Musical Like No Other

Don’t expect a typical “song and dance” show. This is Trainspotting, after all! Expect a dark, dangerous energy, flashes of clarity, and a whole lot of humour. The show features a mix of brand-new songs and classic tracks that will have you wanting to sing your heart out while reflecting on the world around us.

As Irvine Welsh says, this musical has a “bigger, loudly beating human heart” than ever before. It’s designed to make you think, make you laugh, and maybe even make you feel a little bit uneasy—but in the best way possible.

The Vital Details

This is a strictly limited run, and given the massive profile of this world premiere, tickets are sure to fly out the door. Here is everything you need to know to plan your night out:

  • Dates: Wednesday 25th – Saturday 28th November 2026
  • Venue: The Regent Theatre, Ipswich
  • Timings: Various performances available
  • Age Suitability: 15+ (Parental guidance is advised as the show contains adult themes and a “dark dangerous energy”!)

Don’t Miss Out

Whether you are a die-hard fan of the original book and film or you’re looking for a theatre experience that is bold, dynamic, and completely different, Trainspotting: The Musical is the “must-see” event of 2026 for Ipswich.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
