Information - The Ipswich Docks Art Project: Oral History Art Workshop at CHIP Studios
About the session:
A workshop lasting around 1.5 hours, we will explore three different sections of story telling: pre-recorded, in-person with images, and in-person without images, to see what we can create in the form of a large-scale group artwork. Pre-recorded memories are told by Bob Fox, and in-person stories will be told by Chris Turland.
Pencils, charcoal, and pastels can be layered over a painted background (already started by me!) we can use maps, archive images and our imagination/own context to add to a communal ‘map’ of place specific memories.
It will be a relaxed and experimental session suitable for all ages, with the aim of discovering what approaches work well. You are very welcome to bring you own materials, and paper can be provided for individual artworks. Feedback will be greatly appreciated!
About the Ipswich Docks Art Project:
“The Ipswich Docks Art Project is a funded community arts project aimed at connecting people with local maritime history and stories. This will take place through a series of art, movement, and music workshops in a primary school, as well as community art workshops centring around oral history of stories and memories of working on the waterfront and river.”
