Information - The Greatest Poacher in England, Frederick Gowing
Join Dr Harvey Osborne, University of Suffolk lecturer and historian, in examining the career of Frederick Gowing of East Suffolk, who rose to national attention during the 1840s because of his reputation as one of the premier professional poachers in England.
One time Suffolk-based smuggler, rabbit-catcher, poacher, Gowing later became a gamekeeper in Warwickshire, in part because of his involvement with John Bright’s campaign to repeal the Game Laws.
