Information - Spill 2025 – BROWN BABIES
SPILL Festival is an internationally renowned celebration of arts, culture, and performance in Ipswich.
US Air Force personnel have been continuously stationed in Suffolk since 1942, with the mixed heritage children of white mothers and African-American US servicemen termed ‘brown babies’ by the American press.
Kirsty Tallent was born in Ipswich in 1985 to a white mother and Black US Air Force father who first me ton the dancefloor of legendary Ipswich club Cinderella’s.
Raised on Nacton council estate by her mum, Kirsty met her dad for the first time aged 36, a significant moment in her understanding of her place in the world.
Join Kirsty for a participatory workshop and discussion at the original site of Cindy’s nightclub, The Key. She will share new research into Suffolk GI’s, and you are encouraged to contribute your own experiences and recollections in this lively and informal workshop.
