Information - BTCP: Tom McRae

Get ready for an evening of world-class songwriting and intimate storytelling as Brighten The Corners presents the incredibly talented Tom McRae at The Church this October.

Following a massive, sold-out full band tour celebrating 25 years since his debut album, Tom is stripping things back for a series of intimate solo shows. This is a rare opportunity to see one of Britain’s most enduring singer-songwriters alone on stage with just a guitar and a collection of some of the finest songs in British folk and alternative music.

An Award-Winning Career

Since his critically acclaimed debut earned him nominations for the Mercury Prize, a Q Award, and a BRIT Award for Best Newcomer, Tom McRae has quietly built a devoted following. Across ten albums—ranging from the beloved Just Like Blood to his most recent release Étrange Hiver—he has stayed true to his craft, avoiding fleeting trends to create music that is deeply personal and honest.

What to Expect

This career-spanning performance will draw from the full breadth of Tom’s catalogue. You can expect to hear the songs you know by heart, alongside a few hidden gems you might have half-forgotten.

What makes a Tom McRae show truly special is the atmosphere. Known for his candid and witty storytelling between songs, the evening often feels less like a formal concert and more like a long, captivating conversation with an old friend who has been paying very close attention to the world.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
