Animals in the Art Gallery
Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich
Information - Animals in the Art Gallery
Animals in the Art Gallery is a family friendly exhibition that explores British wildlife alongside artistic depictions of animals in all shapes and sizes, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Visitors can see some familiar animals from Ipswich Museums Natural History collection, who are creating a new habitat in the Wolsey Art Gallery!
Artists have always been interested in drawing, painting and sculpting the natural world and the creatures we share our planet with. Enjoy artworks that reflect different animal habitats from woodland to coastal, gardens to urban. Then find out how many different animals can be found in the pictures, sculpture and ceramics.
Artists featured include Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, Anna Airy, Sir Alfred Munnings, George Thomas Rope, Max Ernst, Amy K Browning, Bernard Reynolds, Leonard Squirrell, Fernand Leger and Colin Moss.
A new creative studio will also be revealed in the Wolsey Art Gallery, where visitors are invited to make your own artistic animals. A space to play, draw and get creative with the Animals in the Art Gallery!
