An Evening with Michael Portillo

Join us for a captivating evening with the inimitable Michael Portillo – Secretary of State, traveller, and TV superstar! Michael will take to the stage live to share funny, insightful, and poignant stories from his extraordinarily rich and varied life.

About Michael Portillo

The son of a refugee who rose to become one of Britain’s leading politicians and best-loved broadcasters, Michael’s life has truly been a game of two halves. As a statesman, he served under Margaret Thatcher, ran for the leadership of the Conservative Party, and lost his seat in one of the most famous moments in British political history.

Following his political career, Michael transformed into one of the nation’s favourite broadcasters, offering entertaining debates with personalities like Diane Abbott and Andrew O’Neill and enthralling millions with his journeys on the world’s greatest railways.

What to Expect

In this unique stage show, Michael will share his remarkable life story, from his father’s harrowing experiences during the Spanish Civil War and escape to England, to his mother’s compassionate work looking after refugee children – where they met – all the way to Michael’s present-day adventures travelling across Spain, the USA, India, and beyond.

You’ll hear Michael’s humorous and insightful reflections on figures like Margaret Thatcher and the shifts in political power over time. He’ll even reveal how he broke into television — including the amusing story of when he “became a single mum”. Of course, there will be tales of his incredible railway journeys and what they reveal about history and the modern world.

Who Should Attend?

Whether you’re passionate about politics or a fan of Michael’s international adventures, this event promises to be an unmissable treat. So, all aboard for a memorable evening!

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
