That’s exactly what you’ll find at Ipswich Photographic Society, one of Suffolk’s long-established photography clubs, bringing together photographers from across Ipswich and the surrounding area to learn, share ideas and inspire one another.
In a town blessed with beautiful waterfront views, historic streets, vibrant events and stunning Suffolk countryside on its doorstep, there’s no shortage of subjects to photograph. From sunrise at the Ipswich Waterfront to wildlife along the River Orwell, joining a local photography community can help you see familiar places in a whole new way.
More Than Just a Camera Club
Ipswich Photographic Society offers a varied programme designed to help members develop their photography, whatever their level of experience.
Throughout the season, members enjoy:
📸 Guest Speakers
Inspiring presentations from accomplished photographers covering a wide range of genres, techniques and creative approaches.
🏆 Competitions
Regular competitions provide an opportunity to showcase your work and receive constructive feedback from experienced judges, helping you identify strengths and areas for development.
🖼️ Image Review Evenings
Friendly monthly critique sessions where members can discuss images, share ideas and learn from one another in a supportive environment.
🎯 Practical Workshops
Hands-on photography workshops held at Martlesham Pavilion, giving members the chance to develop both technical and creative skills.
🌍 Inter-Club Competitions
The society also participates in competitions beyond Suffolk, including international exchanges with photographic clubs in Ipswich, Australia, and Gibraltar.
🎨 Annual Exhibition
A chance for members to display their favourite work and celebrate the creativity of the local photography community.

New members are always welcome, whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or have years of photographic experience.
Not sure if membership is right for you? Visitors can attend up to two meetings for £5 per visit, with the fee refundable if you decide to join.
