Information - What’s in the Cardinal’s Cup?

In the historic setting of The Thomas Wolsey pub, join Martyn Cornell, an award-winning writer and leading authority on British beer, to explore the history of medieval brewing and what was in Cardinal Wolsey’s cup. Once you’ve dived into the history, you’ll be guided through a beer tasting by a local brewery.

Who was Thomas Wolsey?

Thomas Wolsey was an English statesman and Catholic cardinal. When Henry VIII became King of England in 1509, Wolsey became the king’s almoner. Wolsey’s affairs prospered and by 1514 he had become the controlling figure in virtually all matters of state. He also held important ecclesiastical appointments.
