Information - Jeremy Bowen: Truth Under Fire

Here at Ipswich.love, we’re so excited to share details about an incredibly timely and important event coming to our town! Get ready for an evening with one of the most respected voices in international journalism, Jeremy Bowen, as he presents “Truth Under Fire.”

An Unmissable Insight into Today’s World

From the heart of conflicts like Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen, Jeremy Bowen has reported from places most of us can only imagine. As the BBC’s International Editor, he’s spent over 40 years bringing us stories from more than 90 countries and 20 wars. Imagine the stories he has to tell – interviewing world leaders, documenting war crimes, and often, being right on the frontlines himself since El Salvador in 1989!

The Battle for Truth in a Changing World

But the world of reporting is changing rapidly. Jeremy will share his unique perspective on how access to information is becoming increasingly challenging. Think about it: foreign journalists are prevented from entering Gaza, Russia controls narratives in occupied Ukraine, and governments from Syria to Sudan restrict access and even discredit reporters who contradict official accounts.

In our age of social media, we’re constantly bombarded with competing claims, making it harder than ever to know what’s true. Jeremy has dedicated his career to fighting for access, verifying hidden truths, and bearing witness when others would rather the world look away. He’ll be explaining just how this battle for truth is being waged, why press freedom is under attack in conflict zones, and what it means for those brave individuals trying to report it, often becoming the first casualty themselves.

Your Chance to Ask the Expert

This isn’t just a lecture! In the second half of the evening, you’ll have a fantastic opportunity to put your own questions to Jeremy. It’s your chance to delve deeper and ask a journalist who has made it his life’s work to get as close to the truth as possible, even when that truth is dangerous, disputed, or under fire.

This really is an essential evening for anyone who wants to understand the world as it truly is, not just as we might wish it to be.
