About the film
Edinburgh, 1810: teachers Jane Pirie and Marianne Woods set up a boarding school in pursuit of independent lives. When a fifteen-year-old ward from India joins them, deepening affections blur professional boundaries, and a false accusation ignites a decade-long legal battle that scandalised Scottish society. Based on real events.
