Information - Good Witches: Cunning Folk and Practical Magic in the Age of the Witch Hunts – Talk
‘What do you do when your cow (or child, or husband) has been cursed? Some people prayed for deliverance, others reported the suspected curser to the authorities… And some fought magic with magic.
Even when witch persecutions were at their height, ‘good’ or ‘cunning’ magic was still practised across East Anglia. This talk by historian, author, and speaker Dr Tabitha Stanmore explores the role cunning folk played in everyday life in the 16th and 17th centuries and how they were treated by witchfinders.
