About the film
An anonymous tip sets off a traditional whodunnit that quickly segues into surrealistic farce, moving from film noir into science fiction. Based on a screenplay by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, it builds an enigmatic atmosphere out of modernist interiors, snow-covered landscapes and Sven Grünberg’s psychedelic synthesiser score. This 4K restoration was scanned from elements held by Estonia’s National Archives.
