Information - Celebrate Heritage Open Days with the Ipswich Maritime Trust

Come and join the party!

We will be celebrating Ipswich’s status as a Heritage Harbour during Heritage Open Day on Saturday 7th September from 10-5pm. There is a fantastic line-up for the day, including:

  • 11am: Book signing by Barry Girling, author of the final edition of Band of Brothers directory of bargemen associated with the Port of Ipswich.
  • 11.45am: Unveiling of new information board about Ipswich’s maritime heritage at the Old Custom House by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lynne Mortimer
  • 12 noon: shanty singing with The Shefarers of Pin Mill and friends, and The Orwellermen; on board Victor
  • 2pm: shanties and singing along with the Shotley Wailers; on the steps of the Old Custom House
  • Throughout the day: children’s painting competition and maritime quiz; and keyring-making workshop, with Jane Chevous
  • Exhibition of maritime Ipswich, with photos from IMT’s Image Archive; in the Old Custom House
  • Display about the Wet Dock and the West Bank, with video; in the IMT’s Window Museum on Albion Quay (near DanceEast)
  • Chatting about maritime Ipswich: come and share your story (or memorabilia)
