We have some absolutely incredible news for theatre and music lovers here in Ipswich! The sensational, award-winning play Black Is The Color of My Voice is coming to our very own Ipswich Corn Exchange, and it’s an event you definitely won’t want to miss.

Inspired by the extraordinary life of the legendary Nina Simone, this deeply moving show features many of her most iconic songs performed live. It is a powerful, soulful, and ultimate feel-good night out that will stay with you long after the final curtain falls.

What is the Show About?

Written by the hugely talented Apphia Campbell, this acclaimed play follows a successful singer and civil rights activist seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father.

As she enters a period of self-reflection, she takes us on a journey through her life—from her early days as a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to her rise as a renowned jazz vocalist and a powerful voice at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement. It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting story of determination and survival.

A Global Sensation Coming to Ipswich

This isn’t just any show—it is a global phenomenon! Black Is The Color of My Voice has toured the UK and Australia to standing ovations, and has played completely sold-out seasons in Shanghai, New York, Edinburgh, and London’s prestigious West End.

Fresh from winning the coveted Best Theatre Award at the Adelaide Fringe 2024, we are so incredibly lucky to have this world-class production visiting us right here in Ipswich.
