Information - Albatross

Part of the ‘In the Work’s  new festival of contemporary culture for Ipswich

Alice returns from a gruelling Antarctic odyssey, but it seems the cracks in the ice may have followed her home.

When Alice returns from a gruelling Antarctic odyssey, she finds that everything has changed. There’s been a flood, a funeral and a new romance.

At 1:30am, her daughter Alba is sleeping. Her mother, Eve, has never been more awake. And Alice? Maybe the cracks she discovered in the Antarctic ice have followed her home.

Albatross is an epic family drama that takes us to the very boundaries of love and devotion in the age of climate catastrophe.

Written by Martha Loader, a Suffolk playwright and Associate Artist of the New Wolsey Theatre. She is both a Bruntwood Prize winner and George Devine award-winner, and her previous play, Bindweed, played at the New Wolsey in June 2024.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
