About the film

The first South African film made for Black audiences, African Jim (also known as Jim Goes to Jo’burg) marked the screen debut of jazz singer and activist Dolly Rathebe, and features popular musical talent of the day including Rathebe and The African Inkspots. The story takes a light-hearted look at themes of urban migration.
