Information - Winter Social and Talk by Cathy Shelbourne
The next East Coast OGA talk is on Admiral Sir Philip Broke, 1st Baronet, given by Cathy Shelbourne.
He was a local Ipswich boy, born at Broke Hall on the River Orwell and buried in the Admirals’ church, St Martins, Nacton. He was often referred to as ‘Broke of the Shannon’, in reference to his command of HMS Shannon. In 1812 he and his crew captured the American frigate USS Chesapeake off Boston, New England.
The talk will be given in the beautifully restored and iconic wooden building of the Unitarian Meeting House, in Friars Street Ipswich.
Refreshments will be available in the form of tea, coffee and cake.
