Information - Rite of Spring and Mirror | Alexander Whitley Dance Company

Engaging. Bold. Visceral.

This groundbreaking double bill unites dance, live motion capture and AI, exploring the tension between human autonomy and forces that shape our fate. Rite of Spring radically reimagines Stravinsky’s classic through a contemporary lens, while Mirror reveals our evolving relationship with intelligent machines.

Encounter a journey through observation, transformation, and the enduring human need to be seen.

About Rite of Spring

Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring is one of the most influential pieces of music ever written, rooted in ritual, sacrifice and collective belief.

Alexander Whitley brings a fresh perspective to this iconic score, drawing on its raw power and emotional intensity without retelling it literally. This work is driven by rhythm and physical strength, showed through a contemporary lens, expressing a ritualistic surrender to something greater than ourselves.

About Mirror

Mirror looks firmly towards our future. Whitley uses live motion capture and artificial intelligence, with dancers interacting with digital forms in real time, creating a shifting world where body and technology respond to one another. It’s immersive, slightly dystopian and quietly intimate, and asks you what it means to be watched, shaped and understood by intelligent systems.
