Information - Meet the Artist: Dale Devereux Barker

On 6 February, take a look around modern art exhibition Colour Shape Pattern and listen to exhibiting artist Dale Devereux Barker, as he talks about his series of swimming inspired lino prints.

Doors open at 6 PM, the talk begins at 6:30 PM in the Wolsey Art Gallery. The event concludes at 8:30 PM. This event is suitable for ages 18+.

Barker’s work was inspired by his first artist residency at Crown Pools in Ipswich in 1989. He made his first linocut in 1981, and he returns to this medium frequently. Lino cutting remains an important way to understand how he works as an artist, and he often returns to his original lino blocks to recut and rework his images.

Dale Devereux Barker’s work explores his fascination with an ‘absurd world’ and reflects his life experiences and the things that he loves, such as swimming. He has used many different media, including vitreous enamels, paint, screen print, lithography, and mixed media. His practice includes creating public artworks across the country. Dale will be bringing prints and books for sale during this event.

This event will take place in both the Great Hall and the Wolsey Art Gallery. The Wolsey Art Gallery has step-free access through the garden.

Tickets are £15 including the talk and exhibition entry.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
