Information - Ipswich Art Society Talk: Haunting Suffolk Landscapes
In this talk by Matthew Bowman, we will be exploring and creating a connection between two significant anniversaries: the 150th anniversary of Ipswich Art Society and the 120th anniversary of M.R. James’ “Ghost Stories of an Antiquary”.
M.R. James’ ghost stories usually centre around the haunting of places, especially Suffolk, which reflects the changing understanding of the landscape during a time of urbanisation and industrialisation.
This talk aims to provide a fresh perspective on familiar themes by examining the creative interpretations of the Suffolk landscape over the past 150 years.
