Information - Dressmaking – Fitting and Pattern Alterations’ course

Learning to correctly fit a pattern is something that most sewists struggle with. In this class we will be learning how to identify fitting errors, and how to make some of the most common fit adjustments that can be made to our paper pattern pieces to achieve the best result. Students are welcome to bring a handmade garment and corresponding pattern pieces that they are having trouble fitting correctly, or learn from standard examples.

We will learn:

  • How to identify fit issues
  • Learn the basic principles of how to begin adjusting fit
  • Bust adjustments
  • Sway back adjustment
  • Lengthen/Shorten adjustments
  • Shoulder width and slope adjustments
  • Basic crotch curve adjustments

To optimise in-class time, a basic understanding of sewing is preferred.
