Information - Coach trip to Red House, Aldeburgh, and Snape Maltings
Join Institute members and friends on this day trip to Aldeburgh and Snape to explore the life and work of Britain’s most famous 20th century composer, Benjamin Britten, and his partner, the singer Peter Pears.
The day includes a guided tour of ‘The Red House’ – the Grade II listed 17th century farmhouse that Britten and Pears moved to in 1957 and where they lived for the rest of their days. The interior provides an accurate picture of their life together, and their love of art, music and nature.
We will also enjoy a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour of the world famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall, established by Britten and opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1967.
There will also be free time to enjoy this iconic heritage destination, with its converted Victorian buildings, independent shops, galleries and restaurants.
Institute members: £40
Non-members: £50
