Information - Buggery Act / Hello Kitty Fun Land / Baby Bullets

Calling all fans of loud, energetic, and defiantly alternative music! Ipswich’s premier independent music venue, The Smokehouse, is hosting an absolute powerhouse of a gig on Friday 17th July 2026.

Get ready for a night of high-tension noise rock, “cutesy wutesy” hardcore, and pure punk energy that will kickstart your weekend with a bang. Here is the lowdown on the incredible lineup heading to town.

Meet the Headliners: Buggery Act

Named after the infamous 1533 statute that once criminalised their very existence, Buggery Act are a predominantly LGBTQ+ quartet who reclaim history through a spectacular sonic assault.

They build their unique sound on a foundation of punishing rhythmic precision and discordant grit, weaponising a massive, triple-string frontline. The result is a sound that is as clinical as it is feral. For fans of the surgical, metallic snap of Shellac, the erratic swing of The Jesus Lizard, and the heavy dread of Chat Pile, this is music that is ugly, rhythmic, and defiantly loud. It’s a performance you won’t want to miss!

Incredible Support: Hello Kitty Fun Land & Baby Bullets

As if Buggery Act wasn’t enough, the lineup is packed with fantastic support acts to keep the energy levels high all night long:

  • Hello Kitty Fun Land: Hailing from nearby Bury St Edmunds, this band brings what they describe as “cutesy wutesy” hardcore. Expect a short, explosive set of nonstop musical carnage, featuring blast beats, slam vocals, and guitar smashing. They are perfect for fans of Converge, Napalm Death, and Torture.
  • Baby Bullets: With their feet firmly planted in both the punk and hardcore scenes, Baby Bullets bring a pure, unadulterated energy to the stage. Their live set is so lively, it might just knock your nan right out of her chair!

A Welcoming and Accessible Venue

The Smokehouse is proud to be an inclusive space for live music lovers. The venue offers excellent step-free access, with the main gig room, the bar, and the accessible toilets all conveniently located on one flat floor. If you have any specific accessibility requirements to make your night as comfortable as possible, please feel free to reach out to the venue directly before the show.

Please note that this gig is for ages 14 and over. To keep everyone safe and happy, music fans aged 14 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
