Information - BTCP: ICHI

Looking for something truly unique to do with the family this May half-term? Brighten The Corners is bringing the wonderful world of ICHI to The Church for a special all-ages afternoon matinee! Whether you are a music lover, a curious kid, or just someone who appreciates the extraordinary, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Hailing from Nagoya, Japan, ICHI takes the idea of a “one-man band” to a whole new dimension. Using a collection of quirky, handmade instruments—like the Stilt-bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, and even a hatbox-pedal-drum—he creates a performance that is ritualistic, playful, and entirely new. As BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq put it: “What on earth is this?! It’s brilliant!”

A Hands-On Creative Workshop

The fun doesn’t stop when the music ends! Following the performance, there will be an instrument-making workshop for children. ICHI will personally guide young participants in crafting their very own Bug Pipe and Wind Whistle using provided materials.

Note: Spaces for the workshop are limited. You can opt-in for a place at the workshop during the checkout process when purchasing your show tickets.

About the Artist

ICHI is a global festival favourite, having performed at everything from Glastonbury and Latitude to events in New York and Hong Kong. His work has been championed by legends like David Byrne and Lauren Laverne. More than just a musician, ICHI is a practicing artist and filmmaker who often hunts through skips for materials to build his next musical invention. His shows are danceable, exciting, and full of universal appeal that transcends age and language.

You Don’t Need To Be An Expert To Get Involved In Pride in Place

One of the biggest misconceptions about community projects is that they're only for people with impressive CVs, professional backgrounds or years of experience sitting on committees. The Pride in Place programme - a government investment for Whitehouse and Stoke Park/Chantry of £20m into each area over 10 years - is trying to change that.
