About Clay 1A
CLAY 1A is being developed as a welcoming, community-focused attraction for everyone, with experiences designed for families and people of all ages, appealing to local communities and visitors from further afield alike.
CLAY 1A is an upcoming, hands-on visitor attraction and museum dedicated to everyday clay objects, set to open in spring 2028. Located at Waterfront House (1A Wherry Quay) on the Ipswich Wet Dock, the destination will feature tactile exhibits, immersive experiences, and community-making workshops.
The £22 million project is being spearheaded by Baylight Properties with a £20 million private endowment and backed by the Ipswich Borough Council. The museum is actively testing prototype experiences and exhibits on the waterfront to help shape the final layout before its completion
